Championship Belt Size Guide: Plate Thickness, Weight and Fit Explained

This championship belt size guide starts with one of the questions we get most often: “which size should I get?” It sounds simple, but a championship belt has a few different things that people mean by size: how thick the plates are, how heavy the belt feels, and how well the strap fits around the waist.

Getting these right is the difference between a belt that looks great in photos and one that also feels right when you strap it on. The rest of this championship belt size guide walks through each one.

Plate thickness: the biggest choice you will make

The metal plates are the heart of any belt, and their thickness changes almost everything about it. We make plates anywhere from 1mm brass up to 16mm, but most orders fall into two common options.

2mm brass plates

  • Lighter and easy to wear for long periods
  • Great for tag team sets, kids, and anyone who plans to wear the belt often
  • Still shows clean detail and a strong gold look

4mm zinc plates

  • Thicker plates with more depth in the engraving
  • Noticeably heavier, which gives the belt that real title feel when you lift it
  • The most popular choice with our customers

Thicker plates go further up the range for display pieces and premium builds, where depth and weight are the whole point.

A simple way to decide: if the belt will mostly be worn, carried around at events or handed between people, lean toward 2mm. If it will be held up for photos, displayed on a wall or given as a top award, 4mm is usually the better pick.

How heavy is a championship belt?

Weight follows plate thickness and material. A 2mm brass belt is the lightest of our common builds and is comfortable for most people, including younger fans. A 4mm zinc belt carries real heft, closer to the belts you see on TV, and most people say that weight is part of what makes it feel special.

If the belt is a gift for a child, or for someone who will wear it for a whole party or event, mention it when you order and we can steer you toward the right build.

Strap fit and waist size

The strap is made from genuine cowhide leather, and it needs to fit the person who will wear it. Most of our belts come with a 52 inch strap, which fits waists up to 46 inches. If the person is bigger than that, the measurement tips below help us make the strap longer. A few pointers:

For custom belts, we also make smaller straps for kids and teens. Kids belts are priced lower than adult belts.

SizeStrap lengthFits
Kids36 inchesAges 4 to 11
Teen48 inchesAges 12 to 17
Adult52 inchesWaist up to 46 inches
  • Measure where the belt will sit. Use a soft tape around the waist at the height they would wear a belt, not their pants size.
  • Add a little room. The plates add thickness, so a strap that is snug on bare skin can feel tight over a shirt.
  • Tell us the measurement when you order. Add it in the order notes or send it with your design details so the strap is made to suit.
  • Buying as a surprise? Borrow one of their regular belts and measure it from the buckle to the hole they use most.

For trophies that will be passed around a league or an office, go with a measurement that suits the largest likely winner. Nobody wants to be the champion who cannot close their own belt.

Main plate and side plates

A standard championship belt has a large main plate in the center and smaller side plates around the strap. The main plate carries the title and the main design, so the text should be short and bold to stay readable.

Side plates are where most of the personal touches go: names, dates, team logos, initials or year by year winners for a league belt. If you are planning a belt that will be awarded every season, ask about leaving side plates for future winners.

Championship belt size guide by occasion

Here is a quick way to think about it:

  • Personal gift for a wrestling fan: 4mm zinc for the real title feel
  • Kids or tag team sets: 2mm brass to keep the weight down
  • Fantasy league or office award: 4mm zinc, sized for the biggest winner
  • Club, gym or event champion: premium CNC with HD engraving for the strongest finish

Still not sure?

That is completely normal, and no championship belt size guide can cover every situation. Tell us who the belt is for, how it will be used and roughly what you have in mind, and we will point you to the right size and build.
